NICK KNIGHT’S 'STILL' EXHIBITION AT THE MASS, TOKYO

British visionary photographer and artist Nick Knight has launched a solo exhibition ‘Still’ at The Mass in Tokyo, Japan, from the 10th of November to the 16th of December, 2018.
Still consists of three series, ‘Flora’, ‘Roses, Photo Paintings’, and ‘Roses From My Garden’, showcases Knight’s aesthetic experimentation through compositions that seize the ephemerality of nature. The printed and digital floral images reinterpret how flowers are depicted in a blend of photography and paintings, embody the subtleness of change and the power of vitality in flowers. The application of glass plate printing techniques on ‘Roses, Photo Paintings’ series has blended digital image with classic painting theory and create a sense of motion in the image; whereas the presentation of ‘Flora’ seems to freeze the moment to highlight meticulous details of petals and leaves from living plants. The film for COMME des GARÇONS’ 2015 fragrance Floriental embraces a conceptual idea of working out what else floral could mean in a fragrance through the flow of vivid fluid melting down from the bouquet of flowers.

For the past four decades Knight has consistantly creating remarkable images that challenge the conventional notions of beauty of the time and bring new perspectives into fashion, art and creative industries through the revolutionary collaborations with prominent designers including Yohji Yamamoto, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, advertisement campaigns for prestigious clients such as Christian Dior, Lancôme, Shiseido, and award-winning editorial for internationally renowned magazines such as British Vogue, Paris Vogue, W, i-D magazine, Dazed & Confused, Another. At this first solo exhibition in Tokyo, Knight and The Mass have together introduced a rather more personal side of Knight's constant practice to challenge himself in exploring the creativity beyond photography.
